Doing good with your art

How often do you take out the time to do something good in the world? We get it, you’re probably hustling hard within your creative work so much that you barely have the time. Here’s a tip though, why not do something good using your art?

We bring you a small inspirational story that comes with a big heart. Stacey Schrader’s creative work has a lot of prepping with it. From sanding, repairing, painting, and final finishes. She does a unique type of art that we may have never thought of as art.

The art of refurnishing your furniture is almost like reincarnating it. The art and prep it takes, literally gives life back to the furniture, thus she calls her business Hope Restored. Schrader does all types of furniture from chairs  to shelves. Just check out that before and after. She also has a bunch of products that she has refurnished over the course of the year in business.

Using this creative platform, Schrader goes after one of her deepest passions for children in foster care. She refurnishes furniture, raffles them off in order to donate to organizations like Gift of Hope (one of her personal favorite organizations). She’s often in support of the organization as well through her business avenues, which makes us feel so happy to see her big heart in such a world.

But what can I do

You can start thinking about what kinds of things you’re passionate about. Dig a bit deep here, but it’s the thoughts that count. Some ideas to spark some interests:

  • Foster Care (Like Stacey!)
  • Homelessness in your city
  • Sex Trafficking
  • Poverty
  • Cancer Awareness

Then put a creative spin on it to combine your creative work with your passion towards humanity. Be part of auctions to gain money for charities, participate in charity art walks, encourage your audience to take part in donating, write a post, or take the time out and go volunteer under your creative brand name.

The point is to find something that you care a lot about because you’d be more likely to commit to advocate for it. Sometimes we’re so caught up in trying to make a living with our art, we forget to take a second to spread positivity with our art and inspire others.

Thus, make art. Do good with your art. Inspire others with your art.

I found this article to be incredibly up lifting. I don’t have any material items that I produce with my art but spreading kindness and love has always been my mission. Thanks for writing and i’ll definitely look for ways to give as much as possible. 🙂

How beautiful and genuine are you. I truly believe our habits are our art. It’s what we put out there. It’s also what we show to our children. Thats why I love Walt Disney so much. He created to create not for greed. The point is to spread GOOD not make money. Lovely.

If we all would do something good every once in a while this world would be a better place. Very inspirational article.

I love hearing these types of stories. With all the bad news we hear, it’s so nice to see that people care for the world and that they do something about it. I love that she takes time to do this.

This is an awesome post! And you are an awesome person! Such a “feel good” read and a GREAT idea. It’s amazing when people use their talents for something good. I as a photographer try to do as much charity work as I can. I will offer to shoot fundraising events at no cost. It may not be as much as what you are doing but I try to help where I can. Again, props to you!

I made a dog bed out of vintage luggage and donated to be used for an auction for the Humane Society in town. Maybe not “art,” but creative and for a great cause! I love this idea!

Say what now? That’s suuuuper awesome! We’re big fans of the Humane Society, so for you to donate to them with A PIECE OF ART by REUSING luggage parts to make a dog bed, we’re impressed *Slow claps for Joelle* !
